Who are we?

My name is Sam Garanzini, and my husband, Alapaki Yee, and I are licensed therapists, gay, and certified to do the Gottman Method with LGBT couples. Since we opened the Gay Couples Institute in 2007, I've been OBSESSED with relationship happiness and satisfaction for same sex couples. 
 
Like many people wanting a better relationship when i was in my early 20's, I enrolled in every course, read every book, and tried every crazy relationship program on the market. 
 
I quickly realized that most of the material out there is only teaching one small part of the puzzle...

What are the steps and phases involved?

From the moment we start working together as partners in your success, we’ll help you complete each of our signature steps required for achieving your relationship happiness and satisfaction goals:

The "Me" Phase
First, we’ll utilize our Personal Mindset System that helps our clients take control of their relationship mindset. You must believe that you're capable of improving your situation, otherwise the rest of the steps do not take hold.
Then, our unique Personal Happiness process will ensure you will take control of your life's path. You need to feel happy as an individual. We devote specific resources toward this for you.
The third step shows clients how to take control of their body using our Personal Connection framework. Avoiding overwhelm and working through personal trauma are good goals to have for this step in the Program.
 
The "You" Phase
The "Connection With Others" step will help us grow your emotional bank account that works wonderfully! We get you and your partner talking about needs in a way that brings you closer together, just like when you started dating.
The core mechanism for ensuring our clients can use differences to grow closer is our "Conflict With Others" system. Many couples do not know how to use conflict to their advantage. We have studied and tested this, and thus have many tools for this step.
The last step in the "You" phase is to customize our "Correction With Others" framework. About 25% of clients approach us after a break in trust of some sort. This framework is structured especially for those who need to repair and move forward.
 
The "Us" Phase
Once we have the first two Phases in place, we’ll kick off the "Us" stage by working through the "Become Lovers" lessons that help you cultivate your physical passion. We utilized concepts from breathwork, tantra meditation, different types of yoga, and massage to help our couples renew their physical vitality.
Next, we show you how to "Become Friends" again. We found that it's very possible to love someone, but not necessarily like them. We show you how to proactively work on your friendship and connection, just like when you started dating.
The final step of our Gay Relationship Revolution Program coaching is to ensure all of our clients are able to create a shared vision of the future using the Become Partners system. We help our clients set up new rituals, roles, goals, and symbols, and create a new way to recalibrate if things go off track again.

What about insurance?

We do not accept insurance, mainly because of the privacy concerns created on your patient record. Instead, we encourage our clients to utilize an FSA or HSA for reimbursement, if possible, or take this work as a tax deduction. We'll give you a comprehensive statement to make this possible, or if you'd like to submit to out-of-network insurance on your own.

Unfortunately, yes.
 
We can only reasonably handle 15 clients at a time, and are often on a wait list.
