The Gay Couples Institute is looking to hire a part-time licensed clinician to join our thriving practice. The ideal candidate possesses a high level of clinical skill and the drive to learn exceptional same-sex couples' counseling work from two Certified Gottman Therapists.

WHO WE ARE

The Gay Couples Institute (GCI) is the largest provider of The Gottman Method in the United States. We've counseled more than 4,000 same-sex couples over the past 16 years with no signs of slowing down. GCI's Co-founders Sam Garanzini, MFT, and Alapaki Yee, MFT are licensed therapists trained directly by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. GCI has also published a ground-breaking, peer-reviewed research study that reveals just how wildly effective Gottman Method Couples Therapy is when it comes to same-sex couples.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

  • Ongoing education and training on the Gottman Method through group and individual consultation. You'll have the opportunity to get credit for Gottman Level 1 and 2 with minimal expense (you must cover a small fee to Gottman Institute to pay for your certificate and/or CEUs if you choose)

  • Support for refining your abilities as a couples therapist, should your goal be to become a Certified Gottman Therapist. We have had numerous clinicians go on to become Certified, passing their video exam on the first attempt.

  • All the supplies and technology you need to use the Gottman Method (trainings, manuals, advanced applications, weekly consultation on your cases, etc).

  • We handle the marketing, billing, and administration. You just do great therapy.

  • Pay is based on education and experience, and from a profit-sharing model.

  • Bonus structure for completing milestones along the way.

  • Ongoing business skills education you missed in graduate school. Get the most out of doing great long-term couples therapy without going it alone.

  • Full support from our staff to ensure you have the help you need to be successful.

PLUSES

  • Experience or education around Discernment Counseling, EMDR, EFT, sex education, or mindfulness/personal resilience.

  • Six (6) months or more experience working directly with same-sex couples focused on sex therapy.

  • Completed Level 2 or 3 Training.

  • Typing speed of no less than 40 - 60 wpm.

  • Be a self-starter, self-sufficient and organized.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Master's Degree in Psychology or Social Work.

  • Full licensure in your state

  • 100 or more hours of couples counseling direct-care completed.

  • Currently and actively providing care, with no greater than a 12-month lapse in your work history.

  • Identify as LGBTQ. Preference is given to gay-identified men, and people of color.

  • High comfort working with same-sex couples around issues related to sex (especially non-monogamy).

  • Comfort with recording every session for quality assurance and clinical education purposes.

  • Have an open and strong mindset to learn and receive feedback (this is a learning and training mentorship program).

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Flexible and ability to pivot quickly in an agile environment.

  • Signed commitment to stay one year.

  • Tech-savvy, and consistently reliable internet connection

YOUR AVAILABILITY FOR DIRECT CARE

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings from 3pm-8pm PT, or

  • Saturdays from 9am to 1pm PT

  • Example: two weekday evenings, or one evening and Saturdays

  • Preference is given to applicants who are willing to make more time available.

  • Our highest demand hours are Monday through Thursday evenings.

  • We will work with you to determine the best schedule that's mutually beneficial for our couples, our needs, and your needs.

TECH KNOWLEDGE

You must be familiar with using the below programs/software:

  • Zoom

  • Slack

  • Scheduling Systems (Acuity)

  • Email platforms

  • Recording software

  • Productivity Tools (Trello)

  • High internet speed (at least 200 Mbps)
